The intent behind Bill C-22 was to better protect youth against sexual exploitation by adult predators. The former Minister of Justice has said that adults who prey upon young people are the targets of the bill, not consenting teenagers. It proposed a close in age peer clause of five years so youth can engage in sexual experimentation and intercourse with each other, without being criminalized.
It would raise the age of consent from 14 to 16, bringing Canada in line with the rest of the developed world and thwart the thriving sex tourism that exists in Canada.
Recent global changes in human trafficking
levels have shown that Canada is both a destination country for sex tourists looking to prey on children as well as a source country of pedophile tourists who prey on children abroad. Canada now has the distinction of being the fifth largest producer of child porn in the world. it goes to say we also then must harbor the fifth largest body of child victims in the world.
Bill C22 nearly made it through the entire process a Bill takes to becoming law. After a decade of planning, researching, debating and drafting the bill made it all the way to the senate during this last 39th Parliamentary Session. Where it sat, ignored until time came to close the session. When legislature or parliament is closed between sessions, a tradition called Prorogued - all orders of the body, that is bill’s motions etc. are expunged.

rack without having to go through the whole process again, I urge you to write your member of parliament asking them to support Bill-C-22 and see it be reinstated at its previous position before Parliament was prorogued.
